Abstract

1384627 Endless conveyers SULZER BROS Ltd 14 March 1972 [16 March 1971] 11884/72 Heading B8A [Also in Division D1] In a loom utilizing a dummy shuttle to insert a weft, the shuttles are returned to the insertion side by flight or platform mounted on a conveyer chain 8 and comprising a web portion 2, and two depending flanges 3, 4 shaped on their mutually facing surfaces to engage an outer pair of links 7 of the drain. Each surface has a recess 6 which substantially conforms in shape to the outline of the link 7 and two deeper recesses 11, 12 to receive the pivot pins 13, 14 of the chain. Guideways 17, 18, recessed to a depth between that of recesses 6 and recesses 11, 12, guide the pivot pins to their respective recesses 11, 12. The flight or platform &c. is formed of resilient material to enable the flanges 3, 4 to be forced apart when the flight or platform is mounted on the chain. An abutment lug 5 attached to the web 2 engages the articles to be conveyed. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the platforms (1a) are of a length 2T, where T is the distance between pivot pins (13), (14), and thereby form a substantially contiguous article support surface (34). In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), to fit on to an inner pair of links (26), the flight is formed of material having a thickness equal to that of an inner link and has flanges (3a), (4a) the opposite ends of each flange being movable away from each other in the longitudinal direction of the chain to allow attachment of the flight to the chain. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown) of Fig. 2 the web (2) is provided with a slit (51) to facilitate the relative movement of the flanges (3), (4). A retaining bolt 52 may be provided through one end of the flanges above and below the link.
