Abstract
1383523 Diphenylamines and pesticidal compositions thereof IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 Feb 1972 [19 March 1971 26 Aug 1971] 5356/72 and 40087/71 Divided out of 7292/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises diphenylamines of formula where Z represents a halo-substituted naphthyl radical or the radical having the formula wherein X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>, X<SP>3</SP> and X<SP>4</SP>, which may be the same or different, are halogen atoms and Y is halogen, trifluoromethyl, nitro or alkyl. The diphenylamines may be prepared by treating 4-nitro-2-trifluoromethylaniline with a halosubstituted naphthalene or with a compound of formula wherein Hal is an atom of halogen and X<SP>1</SP> to X<SP>4</SP> and Y have any of the meanings given above. The process is facilitated by the presence of a base, e.g. sodium hydride, and is usually carried out in the presence of a solvent or diluent, e.g. DMF or THF. The compounds of the invention may be used in pesticidal compositions.
