Abstract
1382454 Grab buckets CONSTRUZIONI CEMENTO COMPRESSO FONDISA SpA 23 Feb 1972 [1 March 1971] 8290/72 Addition to 1200575 Heading B8H The nut and screw actuator mechanism of the grab bucket of the grab bucket excavator of Specification 1,200,575 is now housed in an oil bath having a casing formed in two parts of which one part comprises a circular sleeve 4 rigidly fixed to the nut 8 and to the casing 5 of a sealing gland 6 and the other part comprises a sleeve 11 telescopically and rotatably mounted on the sleeve 4 in sealing engagement therewith whilst extending downwards about the threaded portion 1a of the screw 1 to be secured to a closure member 13 supported by a sealing and bearing assembly 12, 14 on the lower end of the screw 1. The closure member 13 is attached to a plate 16 carrying a plate 17 on which the jaws of the bucket are pivoted at 19, 20. At least one of the chambers 7, 7a is connected to an external reservoir having at least one expandable and contractable wall to accommodate oil flowing to and from the bath owing to the pumping effect caused in the bath by rotation of the screw. The oil bath and reservoir can be located within a protective casing axially secured with respect to the oil bath but rotatable thereabout before abutting the casing so that opening or closing of the jaws does not occur immediately the protective casing engages the walls of an excavation, such as a trench, being dug out by the grab bucket.
