Abstract

1381940 Hydrofining lube oils CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 5 July 1972 [19 July 1971] 31552/72 Heading C5E Lubricating oil stocks are hydrofined at 400-850‹ F. and 100-3000 p.s.i.g. in the presence of a catalyst having a mean pore diameter of at least 140Š and a surface area of at least 100 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. The catalyst suitably comprises molybdenum or tungsten together with nickel or cobalt on alumina or silica-alumina and can have particles of titanium phosphate or zirconium phosphate dispersed therein. The feedstock can be a distillate or a vacuum residue such as a bright stock and can be pretreated by extraction to remove aromatics and/or by dewaxing with methylethylketone.
