Abstract

1381496 Tunnelling machines EDMUND NUTTALL Ltd 1 Feb 1972 [27 July 1971] 35306/71 Heading E1F In the use of a tunnelling shield 1 fallen excavated spoil is urged onto a collecting surface 32 of the shield by the advance of the shield and is urged across the surface 32 to pass down through an aperture 33 in the surface by a pair of multi-bladed rotors 34a and 34b that are rotated about axes of rotation that are substantially normal to the surface and are on opposite sides of the aperture. The elements are contra-rotated at the same rate by hydraulic motors. Latches 37 are provided to prevent inadvertent rotation of the rotors. The excavating means of the referred to Specification 1381497 may be mounted in the shield.
