1380943 Donning and doffing KANEBO Ltd and MURATA MACHINERY Ltd 29 Dec 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 60281/71 Heading D1D In an automatic donning and doffing apparatus a beam 17 carrying chucks 18 is suspended above spindles 6 by pairs of ropes 22, 24 or chains 106. Ropes 22, 24 are controlled by cam wheels 33, 34, Fig. 4, to perform the sequence of movements of the beam 17. Chains 106 are controlled by motor 133, Fig. 7, for raising and lowering beam 17 and by ram 113 for rotating the beams which in this embodiment aligns chucks 18 which are carried on the ends of radial hanger arms 103. In the rope controlled embodiment a rod 36 with a magnetic end Fig. 5E, is manipulated by a cam 38 to guide the bobbin end onto spindle 6. Means are also provided to rotate the spindles in the winding direction through a prescribed angle after the chucks engage the 'bobbins. Spindle Details. Bobbins 4 are mounted on the spindle 6 and engaged by a detent 507, Fig. 17A. After the bobbin has been lifted slightly by the doffing apparatus it is rotated backwards about one turn which breaks the yarn by its being drawn into a recess in the upper flange of a waste spool ring 316 containing a blade 406, Fig. 16. The reverse rotation is effected by a fluid cylinder 309, Fig. 13, which is connected through crank 308 and clutch 304 into the spindle drive shaft 301. Alternatively an auxiliary motor (S11), Fig. 18 (not shown), is connected to the spindle drive shaft by a clutch S17.
