1380654 Rolling mills SCHWERMASCHINENBAU-KOMBINAT ERNST THALMANN MAGDEBURG VEB 2 Oct 1972 45365/72 Heading B3M A strip rolling mill is arranged with its work rolls 1, 1<SP>1</SP> lying in a common plane inclined to a vertical plane containing the axes of the backing rolls 4, 4<SP>1</SP> which frictionally drive the rolls 1, 1<SP>1</SP>. The work rolls may lie on either side of the vertical plane or both on the same side, and the strip being rolled may follow an inclined path from right to left or vice versa. Each work roll is supported by an intermediate roll 2 or 2<SP>1</SP> and a support roll 3 or 3<SP>1</SP>. A further intermediate roll may be associated with each work roll. The positions of the work rolls may be so chosen that the rolling forces acting on the two backing rolls 4 and 4<SP>1</SP> are equal.
