Abstract

1380353 Releasable fastenings O BIRKELAND 21 June 1972 29071/72 Heading E2A [Also in Division F2] A furniture or like structure comprises two parts 10, 11 having support faces 12, 13 adapted for mutual abutment, locking means 16, 17 disposed within channels 14, 15 of the faces 12, 13, each locking means 16, 17 comprising a row of spaced locking elements 19 with aligned bores 20, the elements 19 of each locking means being insertable between the elements 19 of the other locking means, the locking means having holes 22 for screws 23, and a common locking pin 21 adapted to be disposed through the bores 20 of the two locking means, the bores 20 of the two locking means 16, 17 being slightly offset from one another when the surfaces 12, 13 are first brought into abutment (see Fig. 2, not shown) so that, when the pin 21 is inserted through the bores, the faces 12, 13 are drawn together. As shown, the elements 19 are of rectangular cross-section, possibly slightly conically shaped, and project beyond the faces 12, 13. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) one of the locking means 16 does not project beyond the face 12. In another form (Fig. 5, not shown) the abutting faces (12a, 13) are oblique and the locking elements (19a) have round ends.
