Abstract

1339899 Building frameworks; stud and socket fastenings H OETIKER 22 Dec 1970 60948/70 Headings E1K and E2B A building framework, which can be disassembled by the release of fasteners x, y, comprises a plurality of elongate angle members 110, each having two flanges extending mutually at right angles, each flange having a longitudinally extending series of equally spaced holes formed through it for receiving the fasteners, and a plurality of corner plates 130 each having two edges extending mutually at right angles and a series of spaced apart holes arranged parallel to each edge, each corner of the structure (Fig. 1) being formed by three angle members 110 arranged mutually at right angles with each flange of each angle member lying in the same plane as one flange of another of the angle members, each pair of coplanar flanges being connected by a corner plate 130 and the fasteners x, y. The corners are preferably further strengthened by diagonal bracing members 138 (Fig. 2) which are also secured by fasteners engaging holes in the members 138 and in the flanges of the angle members. The structure of Fig. 2 uses triangular corner plates, and also includes connecting members 110' whereby relatively short angle members 110 may be used. Where, on the other hand, relatively long angle members are to be used which are required to pass continuously through a corner of the framework to form an integral part of an adjacent framework, the corner plates 150 are of trapezoidal form (Fig. 9) and one of these may be formed integrally with an adjacent corner plate as indicated at 160. Fig. 9 also shows two alternative forms of fastener each using a stud (210, Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) which is retained in one case by a spring clip 220, engaging a groove in the stud, and in the other case by a tapered key which engages a slot in a longer stud 212'. A further alternative fastener, Figs. 10 and 15, consists of a modified spring clip 230 engaging a first groove in a modified stud which includes a second groove 245 into which metal of the corner plate or bracing member can 'be displaced by upsetting the periphery of the hole in the latter as indicated at 111'. The building framework may have, cladding panels 900, Fig. 16, secured to it by stud-and-clip fasteners as described above, the cladding being completed by corner pieces 910 which may enclose a sealing hose 920 and corner fillets 950'.
