Abstract

1380312 Vacuum impregnation IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Jan 1973 [18 Feb 1972] 7545/72 Heading D1L In a method for the vacuum impregnation of textile material a web is degassed by passage through or in contact with means for subjecting the web to a reduced pressure (e.g. 100 mm. of Hg or less) and is then immediately placed into contact with a treatment liquid contained in a storage chamber, excess liquid being removed from the impregnated web by means which form part of a retaining wall of the chamber. In Fig. I a vacuum chamber 8 is formed by four rollers 1, 2, 3, 4 and end walls (not shown) and communicates directly with liquid treatment chamber 9 formed by rollers 2 and 4 and additional roller 5. Excess liquid is removed from the impregnated web 16 by passage through the nip formed between rollers 4 and 5. In Fig. II the web 16 is fed between rotating screen 30 and air-impermeable flexible belt 36 and passes successively vacuum chamber 39 and liquid chamber 40 formed by a roller 37, a wall of the vacuum chamber 39 and the end walls of the screen 30. Excess liquid is removed from the web by the nip formed between roller 37 and belt-guiding roller 34.
