1379613 Locks A DAVENPORT 28 Feb 1973 [1 Jan 1972 22 Nov 1972] 18/72 and 53995/72 Heading E2A A lock comprises a housing mountable on a surface, a socket separate from the housing, a bolt slidably mounted in the housing an elongated projection integral with the bolt projecting transversely of the bolt and beyond the housing for manual operation of the bolt the housing being provided with holes for fixing screws which are accessible only after the bolt has been removed and a plurality of locking members each of which is independently movable at least in one position of the bolt between a respective first position or a respective first selected position at which each locking member is operable to lock the bolt and a respective second position at which it is inoperable to lock the bolt. The lock housing comprises spaced sleeves 2, 3 and 4 fixed to a base plate 1. Three rings 10 are rotatable on the bolt 5 between the sleeves 3 and 4, each ring is independently movable to and from the setting position and the bolt is slidable by a handle 6. The bolt has a longitudinal slot 8 intersecting three transverse slots 7. Each ring 10 has a pin 11 projecting into one of the slots 7 in the locking position of the bolt and engages in the slot 8 in the releasing position. Each ring or an adjacent surface has a series of members and the combination is set by turning each ring so that each pin 11 engages in the bolt slot 8 to release the bolt. To mask the combination when the bolt is released the bolt has one or more further slots 7 into which the pin or pins 11 can be moved by turning the ring or rings. To prevent the bolt rotating a screw 9 extends through the base plate into the slot 8. To allow the combination to be changed each pin 11 is mounted on a metal, annular insertion which snap fits to a predetermined angular position relatively to the respective ring 10 which is resilient and additionally or alternatively has inwardly directed pads. The outer surface of the insertion and the inner surface may have a complementary polygonal form. The rings may alternatively be positioned in the socket instead of in the housing.
