Abstract

1378941 Reciprocating-conveyers G S EQUIPMENT 4 Jan 1972 [4 Jan 1971 7 June 1971 21 Oct 1971] 292/72 Heading B8A [Also in Division G3] Movable handling apparatus comprises a hoist mounted on a movable member positioned by an hydraulic drive system controlled by a feedback control system in which a desired position signal is compared with an actual position signal to provide an error signal adjusting the fluid supply to the hydraulic drive system. As shown, a crane 10 carrying a plating barrel 18 is traversable along rails 12 above a plating line 19 and is automatically positioned at each of a plurality of stations. At each station the barrel is lowered and rotated in a bath. The crane 10 includes a chain hoist having sprockets 47, 49, mounted on vertical beams 28, between which runs endless chains 51 supporting a lifting bar 52. A barrel is supported from the bar by a frame 60 and is rotated by a belt drive 64. The crane is reversibly driven along the rails by a fluid motor not shown. The hoist is also driven by a fluid motor and, in addition, incorporates a worm-gear speed-reducer, not shown, which prevents the barrel falling when the motor is not supplied with power. The supply of fluid to the motors is provided by an hydraulic drive unit, not shown, having solenoid valves energized by a programmable control circuitry 91A<SP>1</SP> (see Divisions G2-G3), responsive to magnetically actuated switches 82A, 84A, 86A, adjacent to each bath, which are actuated by the presence of a magnet 83A mounted on the crane.
