Abstract
1378827 Casting moulds and cores AUDI NSU AUTO UNION AG and WANKEL GmbH 30 Nov 1972 [24 Dec 1971] 55395/72 Heading B3F [Also in Division F1] A die for casting a substantially triangular rotary piston has outer parts 14, 14a, 14b and cores 15, 16 located by bushes 23, 30. To form cooling passages in the regions of the piston's apices the cores include portions 17, 24 with tapered projections 18, 25, these portions cooperating with further portions 19, 26 to form annular grooves from which the passages extend. An extension 31 of a hub 29 of the core 16 forms a bearing opening and abuts a hub 22 of the core 15. When the casting has been made the cores are dismantled by removing first the hubs, then the portions 17, 24 as indicated by arrows a and finally the portions 19, 26 in accordance with arrows b. The core 15 may be dispensed with and the corresponding passages and annular groove formed by machining.
