Abstract

1377819 Electric discharge heating HEBERLEIN & CO AG 8 Sept 1972 [21 Sept 1971] 41853/72 Heading H5H [Also in Division Dl] A yarn, filament or ribbon 2 drawn by capstans 5 from a bobbin 1 is heated by an arc discharge along the yarn &c. between electrodes 6, 7 supplied from the high voltage source 8. The yarn &c may be moistened or coated with a conductive liquid by a wick 9 on reservoir 10, yarn &c. The moistening may alternatively be effected by a fog chamber, roller or capillaries. The electrodes may be in the form of rings surrounding the yarn. The arc may be regularly or irregularly interrupted by a switch or a triac in series with the arc and may be arranged to be fired under control of a flip-flop or R.C. circuit containing a battery. The apparatus is used preceding a device for imparting twist in a false-twist apparatus and may be used on yarns comprising bundles of filaments of thermoplastic synthetic materials (e.g. polyamides and polyesters) in order to heat set the false twist. The interrupt operation allows "furry textured" yarns to be made.
