Abstract

1377815 Caps for containers ANCHOR HOCKING CORP 30 March 1972 [2 April 1971] 15106/72 Heading B8T A tear-out panel 13 on a closure cap which may be of metal is removed by lifting a tab 14 from detents 30 and pulling out tear strip 19 which is defined by score lines 16, 17. A ramp 18 facilitates this tearing action. Score line 16 is adjacent to sealing gasket (20) and above a container rim (21), Fig. 4 (not shown), so that the container user is protected from the torn metal edge. Another ramp is positoned diametrically opposite to ramp 18 so that linescoring tools can be precisely positioned. A crimped skirt on the cap grips a container bead, and a plastics outer cover with a skirt may be pressed on to the cap so that an inwardly projecting bead on the skirt engages edge (6) of cap skirt (4), Fig. 5 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 8, skirt 10 includes a resilient ring gasket 9 for sealing the container 11 and holding cap 8 in position on groove 35 of container bead 34. Again, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), a closure cap of the press-on end snapoff type has container engaging lugs (41) formed at spaced positions around a cap skirt (42) and adapted to snap under a bead (43) of the rim of the container.
