Abstract

1377621 Mixing apparatus DE DANSKE SUKKERFABRIKKER AS 1 May 1972 [3 May 1971] 12774/71 Heading B1C [Also in Division C1] In an apparatus for purifying contaminated water, the contaminated water is introduced through pipe 18 into trough 1, at least one chemical (e.g. lime) acting as precipitating and flocculating agent is introduced through pipe 19 into trough 1, the liquid in trough 1 is subjected to a rotary movement about the longitudinal axis of trough 1 by impellers 10 on rotary shaft 2 and treated water and solids are removed through outlet 20. After discharge through outlet 20 the solids comprising inorganic and organic material including turbidity and colour bodies and bacteria are separated from the treated water, e.g. by settling. Part of the separated solids may be returned to the trough. In the embodiment shown the trough is divided into compartments 3-8 by walls 2 and is provided with adjustable shutters 15 for controlling the flow of liquid. The liquid may flow from one compartment to another by flowing over the walls or through openings in or below the walls.
