Abstract
1358244 Agitating, aerating and circulating liquids G SHELEF 15 June 1972 28125/72 Heading B1C [Also in Division C1] In a process for purifying sewage in the presence of algae in a channelled pond 10, Fig. 2, the pond is formed into channels by partitions 14 and contains baffles 32. The surface aerators 12 comprise beaters 36 (see also Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) and are driven by variable speed motors 40, such that the desired sewage flow rates can be achieved. Only the top portion of the liquid in the pond is discharged during the presence of light by a floating discharge device (see Figs. 6 and 7, not shown). The effluent discharged from the pond may be treated with a flocculant, subjected to a flotation step and treated with activated carbon. The pond may include dividers of asbestos, wood or steel and may be lined with cbncrete, asphalt or polyethylene.
