Abstract

1376789 Locking injection moulds H J DRAZICK 23 March 1972 [1 April 1971] 13663/72 Heading B5A A releasable locking mechanism for an injection mould comprises a latch 40 which holds die plates 22 and 32 together until a third die plate 30 has moved a predetermined distance whereupon a projection on a release bar 82 displaces the tongue 62 of a rotary detent 60 carried in housing 42 on die plate 32 out of the notch 54 of a latch bar 52 carried by die plate 22. The detent 60 is urged to rotate clockwise as shown, by a spring-loaded pin 70. The release bar 82 and latch bar 52 pass through the housing 42 and through a cut away portion of the cylindrical detent 60. Die plate 30 is raised to withdraw core 38 from the mould cavity 36 after injection and, when the lost motion provided by bolts 94 (only one shown), has been taken up, it carries die plate 32 up with it. The moulded article A remains on the core 28 of die plate 22 until ejected by pins 24. The die plates are aligned by dowels 106 passing through holes 108 and 110.
