1376773 Apparatus for treating textile webs E KUSTERS 8 Aug 1972 [14 Aug 1971] 36874/72 Heading D1L A rotatable guide drum 1 [Fig. 2] for use in apparatus for washing textile webs comprises an axle 2, a bearing tube 3 mounted on the axle 2 for rotation therewith, a plurality of bearing bars 4 mounted parallel to and radially spaced from the tube 3 via flexible links 5 to form the material guiding surface of the drum 1, and means for displacing the bearing bars axially of the tube 3 during rotation of the drum to alter the radial displacement of the bars (and thus the web) from the longitudinal axis of the drum. As illustrated each bearing bar 4 may be formed in two halves with a gap 8 therebetween and the links 5 of each half inclined in opposite directions. Alternatively the bars may be formed in one piece with alternate bars round the periphery of the drum arranged with their links 5 inclined in opposite directions (Fig. 9, not shown). The axial displacement of the bearings bars may be occomplished by providing the ends of each bar with rollers 9 guided on an appropriately shaped guide cam 10a (Fig. 3) or by an element 11 displaceable by a controlled drive (not shown) on axle 2 and acting on the bars via articulated members 12 (Fig. 4). The flexible links 5 may be in the form of rigid bars attached to the bars and/or the tube either by means of a pivoting linkage (Fig. 5, not shown) or a fixed resilient mounting (Fig. 7, not shown) or they may be in the form of resilient leaf springs fixedly attached to the bars and the tube (Fig. 6, not shown). The radial displacement of the bars with respect the tube 3 moves the textile web vigourously to and fro in the treatment medium and the simultaneous axial movement of the bars prevents curling of the edges of the web and centres the web on the drum surface. When used for guiding a textile web 20 through a washing liquid chamber the displacement means are preferably arranged to displace alternate bars 4 radially towards and away from the bearing tube 3 and as shown in Fig. 2 the links 5 are inclined at an angle of 45‹ or less to the axis of the drum so that a relatively large radial displacement of the web is achieved by only a small axial displacement of the bars.
