Abstract

1376749 Container closures UNITED GLASS Ltd 22 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 59629/71 Headings B8T and B8C A flexible plastics snap-on closure cap has a disc-like top portion 2 and a dependent peripheral skirt 4 with an inwardly turned annular bead 6, which engages below an outwardly facing bead 12 of the neck 8 of a container. The upwardly directed sealing surface of the container 10 is flat, and clamped between the surface 10 and the cap is a disc liner 14, of greater diameter than sealing surface 10 so that the peripheral portion 16 of the liner 14 overhangs. The liner 14, which may be a thermoplastic adhesivecoated aluminium foil, is removably adhered to the sealing surface 10 by an induction heatsealing process as described in Specification 1,135,943. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the upper portion of bead 12 is cut away, leaving a narrow sealing surface (22) to which the liner 14 is adhered. In operation, the snap-on closure is removed, and the liner removed by grasping the overhang 16 and removing the liner.
