1376323 Pneumatic tyre UNIROYAL AG 8 Dec 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 56988/71 Heading B7C An integrally constructed pneumatic tyre comprises a carcass including a pair of bead rings and at least one radial cord ply 8 extending from one bead ring to the other; a reinforcing belt, e.g. 9, 10, extending circumferentially of the tyre; tread 6, shoulder 5, and sidewall 4 portions of elastomeric material; a pair of circumferentially extending reinforcing strips 11, 12 lying at the same radial level between the carcass and tread portion 6 and disposed one to each side of the mid-circumferential plane A of the tyre, each strip having cords inclined at an acute angle (e.g. 50-80 degrees) to the plane A, the cords of one strip being oppositely inclined to the plane A to those of the other strip ; and a further reinforcing strip 13 with cords disposed substantially radially of the tyre located radially outwardly of, in contact with and covering, the strips 11, 12. The axial width b of each strip 11, 12 may approximate one quarter the maximum section width B of the tyre, and the axially inner edge of each strip 11, 12 may be located a distance a of between 2À5 and 15 mm. from the plane A. The belt may, as shown, comprise two layers 9, 10 each having cords extending at an angle of between 0 and 20 degrees to the plane A and when the cord angle is >0 degrees the cords of one layer may cross those of the other. The strip 13 may bend more easily than the ply 8 and belt layers 9, 10, and the cords in the strip 13 may have a higher degree of twist or torsion than those in the layers 9, 10. The layers 9, 10 may be located radially outwardly of the strips 11, 12 and 13 as shown or may be located radially inwardly of these strips. The strips 11, 12 and 13 may be formed from calendered wires or cables made of, e.g., steel, glass fibres or plastics.
