Abstract

1375872 Child's car seat CHARLES FUREY & ASSOCIATES PTY Ltd 1 Feb 1972 [8 Feb 1971] 4736/72 Heading A4J [Also in Divisions A5 and B7] A child carrier 6 for securing to a motor vehicle seat 12, 13 comprises a seat-contacting base having four sections lying in different planes, the angles between next-but-one sections being equal so that the carrier can be secured to the seat in two alternative positions. In the embodiment shown, three of the base sections are constituted by panels 9, 10, 11 and the fourth section is defined by end edges of side walls 7 integral with the panels 9-11. Recesses 15 in the side walls 7 receive a car seat belt 16; the carrier may itself include restraining belts and a padded, adjustable head restraint 21. The angle between next-butone base sections is about 100 degrees. The carrier is preferably moulded from plastics and may be upholstered in plastics foam, and the panels may be ribbed or perforated. In a second embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the fourth base section is also a panel (25); a floor made up of sections (26) and (27) is spaced above the base (8A) and side walls are provided with side wings (28). Openings (39), (42) and (43) are provided in the floor for a harness (37), (38), (40)-(42). In a third embodiment, Figs. 6-8 (not shown), the four base sections are defined by two runners 46, each comprising flanges (47)-(50) of side panels (45). Panels (51), (52), (53a) extending between the side panels (45) support the child. An aperture (54) defined between back panel (51) and a further back panel (53b) can receive a seat belt.
