1374711 Selective signalling VDO ADOLF SCHINDLING AG 4 Sept 1972 [4 Sept 1971] 40910/72 Heading G4H A data collection installation for monitoring production machines has a central processing unit and a plurality of consoles into which production data is introduced on first lines which are connected to second lines from which the data is sent to the central unit via transmission conductors fed from digital multiplexors controlled from the central unit via address lines. The output of a clock-driven first counter at the central unit is supplied in parallel to all the consoles in each of which it is compared with the console's address. On equality, an AND gate is partially enabled so that if the console requires to transmit data, the gate is fully enabled to energize a request line to stop the counting at the central unit and start a second counter at the central unit which supplies parallel address signals to the console. These address signals control four digital multiplexors, each having two sections, each section controlled by (the same) one stage of the counter, the two sections being selected in turn by the second stage of the counter, each multiplexor connecting respective ones of the second lines in turn to a respective one of four transmission conductors going to the central unit where the data is punched on to tape. At the end of data transmission, the request line or the tape punch unit (recognizing an end signal) stops the second counter and the first counter resumes. The first and second lines at a console are at right angles and on opposite sides of a replaceable plate, connected by platedthrough holes.
