1373489 Epoxides IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 Nov 1971 [9 Nov 1970 18 Feb 1971 4 June 1971 23 July 1971 (4)] 53118/70 4923/71 19006/71 34626/71 34628/71 34629/71 and 34630/71 Heading C2C Olefinic compounds are oxidized to epoxides by passing in the vapour phase together with molecular oxygen and at a temperature below 300‹ C. over a solid substance comprising a copper compound in which the copper is capable of being oxidized by the oxygen, separating the epoxy compound from vapour products formed by the oxidation of the olefinic compound, reductively regenerating the solid involved in the oxidation, using said regenerated solid in further oxidation of the olefinic compound with periodic reductive regeneration and separating the epoxide from the oxidation product. Examples describe the epoxidation of propylene, ethylene. Other olefinic compounds mentioned as starting materials are cyclohexene, butenes and styrene.
