Abstract

Alkyl or aryl alpha-cyanoacrylates, rapid cold-setting adhesives, can be prepd. continuously and more rapidly by emptying as catalyst (for reaction of alkyl or aryl cyanoacetate with HCHO) a weakly basic ion-exchange resin at the b.pt. of the reaction mixture is an inert organic solvent forming an azeotropic mixture with water, pref. benzene, toluene or xylene. Water and solvents are eliminated. Product is depolymerised and isolated.
