1373377 Ironing board assemblies MAJIK IRONERS Inc 7 Dec 1971 [7 Dec 1970] 56695/71 Heading D1A An ironing board assembly comprises a sectional ironing board linked to a carrying case and movable between a first position with the carrying case forming a support for the extended ironing board and a second position in which the ironing board is received in the carrying case. Preferably the assembly includes an electric iron d on a linkage I which is foldable also into the case, the linkage l being pivotable about the vertical axis of a support T and movable vertically up or down from or onto the ironing board b in dependence upon whether a switch actuating lever 179 is released or depressed. The ironing board comprises a central section 37 supported from a fixed column 19, by an arm 33 and a link 40 and two end sections 58, 59 supported by links 54, 55 from the arm 33. The link 54 is extendable to permit raising of the section 58 when folding and unfolding the iron d and linkage l. The section 58 has a triangular corner section 75 (Fig. 11) which may underlie the top for ironing shirts. The assembly includes a support member 46 with a detent engageable with a link m to maintain the board in the raised condition. The iron support means l comprises pivotally interconnected tubes 175, 173, 138 and a housing f, a cable 168 (Fig. 19) passing through the tubes 173 and 175 to maintain their relative disposition, which is adjustable by a turnbuckle 167, when unfolded. The housing f is connected by links 107, 117 (Fig. 25) to the rotatable shaft R and is movable vertically relative to the shaft R on rotation of an electric motor M through gearing driving a shaft 126, a crank thereon and a spring 122 interconnecting the crank and the lower link 117. A cam 131 on the crank actuates microswitches to stop the motor and determine the raised and lowered positions of the iron. A support 185 is provided on the tube 173 for the iron when folded away.
