Abstract

1373095 Clutch control TELEFLEX Ltd 13 Dec 1971 [11 Sept 1970] 43617/70 Heading F2L An automatic slack-adjuster for a clutch release linkage comprises a nut 12 which transmits axial thrust between input and output rods 18, 20 and has two sets of teeth 13A, 13B cooperating with teeth 19, 25 on a fixed casing 15 and a non-rotary collar 24 which is urged by a spring 26 towards the nut 12. During leftward axial movement of the nut 12 interaction between the teeth 13A, 19 rotates the nut 12 relative to the rod 20 to take up slack whilst the teeth 13B ratchet over the teeth 25. The nut 12 is rotated one tooth pitch for each complete stroke of the nut 12 until the rotary movement of the nut 12 produced during leftward axial movement of the latter is insufficient for the teeth 13A to ratchet over the teeth 25. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the rod assembly transmits axial force in tension and comprises a nut (43) in threaded engagement with an input sleeve (40) and connected to an output flexible cable (45). The nut (43) has two sets of teeth (43A, 43B) cooperating with teeth (44, 47) on an axially fixed sleeve (46) and a spring-pressed non-rotatable collar (48). Interaction between the teeth (43A, 44) rotates the nut (43) relative to the cylinder (40) to take up slack whilst the teeth (43B) ratchet over the teeth (47) on the collar (48).
