Abstract

1371876 Microwave ovens AMANA REFRIGERATION Inc 11 Aug 1972 [7 Sept 1971] 37643/72 Heading H5H [Also in Division E2] When a microwave oven door 68 is closed electrical means locks the door closed whilst the microwave generator is operative. The door 68 carries a pivoted latch 70 having a hooked end 98 retained by a ledge 114 of an opening 94 in the oven casing 82 when the door is closed. The hooked end 98 bears on a resilient lever 92 in this position to actuate an -interlock switch 90. A spring blade 112 biases the latch 70 downwardly. A solenoid 100 is energized on completion of the circuit to the microwave generator to lock the latch 70 in position. In the energized position shown a pivoted pawl 104 bears on spring blade 92 to lock latch 70 in position and prevent opening of door 68. On de-energization the pawl is moved anticlockwise away from blade 92 by solenoid arm 102. In an alternative embodiment the pawl moves in a horizontal plane. A door interlock switch is also provided. In use, the oven can only be energized when both interlock switches and a start switch are closed. The solenoid is operated on oven energization to lock the door 68 in position. Alternative long and short time switches are provided.
