Abstract

1371578 Valves SIDNEY FLAVEL & CO Ltd 28 June 1973 [27 June 1972] 30002/72 Heading F2V A control valve for controlling the supply of gas to a gas-fired appliance comprises a spring- loaded plunger 9 axially movable in a body and having at one end a sealing ring 7 that, in the closed position, seals bore 6, a spring-loaded tapered valve member 11 housed in the plunger 9, and a helical cam face 24 on which the operating member 23 of the plunger acts to operate the valve. Initially the plunger is retracted from a notch and thereafter rotated causing a lug 25 to follow the cam and so axially withdraw a sleeve 17 on which the plunger is adjustably mounted. After the lost motion had been taken up in recess 10, the valve member 11 is moved gradually to the full open position. The operating member may be formed with a window through which a coaxial stationary dial is visible to indicate the position of the valve for intermediate control.
