Abstract

1370939 Heat treating webs ARTOS GES FUR INDUSTRIELLE FORSCHUNG UND ENTWICKLUNG CA MEIER-WINDHORST 16 Nov 1971 [19 Nov 1970] 53216/71 Heading D1L [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for heat treating or drying webs of material comprises a plurality of nozzle bodies 11, 12 and 13 [Fig. 2] having end walls 11A, 12A and 13A with treatment medium outlet apertures facing and disposed below the path of travel of the web, the nozzle bodies being arranged end-to-end and side-by-side in a plane parallel to the path of web travel and being spaced from each other to form exhaust slots 16 therebetween which extend in the direction of web travel [arrow in Fig. 2]. The outlet apertures may be of circular cross-section (nozzle bodies 11 and 13) having a diameter of 3-5mm, or slots (nozzle bodies 12) extending in the direction of web travel, the total cross-sectional area of the apertures preferably being 3-5 times smaller than the total cross-sectional area of the exhaust slots 16. Closable slits 18 may be provided extending transversely of the web between adjacent ends of the nozzle bodies, these slits allowing passage of only a negligible quantity of exhaust medium. As illustrated in Fig. 1 the exhaust slots 16 preferably communicate via passages 19 with transversely extending exhaust collecting channels 17. An arrangement of nozzle bodies may also be provided above the web, this arrangement being similar to that disposed below (Fig. 1) or of a conventional nature (Fig. 3, not shown).
