Abstract

1370890 Bearings SKF (UK) Ltd 11 Feb 1972 [20 Nov1970] 55354/70 Heading F2A A plastics ball-bearing cage suitable for use in the bearing of Fig. 1 comprises barriers 12 located between adjacent pockets and extending axially in the same direction as projections 8 defining the mouths of the pockets, each barrier being of such a size as to obstruct the passage of a ball into the space between adjacent projections of adjacent pockets during assembly, but so as not to interfere with deflection of the projections when a ball is inserted through the mouth of a pocket. In assembly, the balls are spaced around the shaft between the races, and held in their approximate positions by grease. The cage is inserted axially, and the barriers 12 may be shaped so as to feed the balls towards the mouths of the pockets. The cage is injectionmoulded.
