Abstract

1,014,593. Bearings. KOYO SEIKO CO. Ltd. Feb. 15, 1963, No. 6198/63. Heading F2A. A seal S, for a ball or roller bearing, has a rigid core 3 and a body R of rubber of plastics material, projections 4 and 5 of which are received in grooves 7 and 8 of an outer race A and an inner race B respectively, and a projection 6 which extends axially and inwardly of the bearing and is adjacent to the outer periphery of the inner race B. The core 3 has a radiallyinwardly directed extension 1, adjacent the projection 4, and a slightly inclined inwardlydirected extension 2, adjacent the projections 5 and 6. The projection 4 fits snugly into the groove 7, the projection 5 acts as a labyrinth seal, and the projection 6 diverts lubricant inwardly of the bearing. In a modification as shown in Fig. 2, the labyrinth effect is increased by a further projection 9 of the seal body R, which also serves to prevent ingress of dirt &c. to the bearing.
