Abstract

1370463 Test terminal BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 29 June 1972 [30 March 1971] 8141/71 Heading H2E A test terminal for a system of bus-bars 2, 3 and 4 comprises a tubular insulating body 22 having a flange 23 secured to a panel 1 by adhesive and a second insulating body 24 the outer end face of which is recessed to provide an annular seating in which is bonded a shoulder 26 integral with and located between the ends of a contact pillar 25. The pillar 25 may be recessed at one end to receive one cap of a cartridge fuse or a separate longitudinally slit resilient metal sleeve can be utilized to connect the pillar and fuse. The other end of the pillar is threaded to be engaged by an insulating cap 28 and a metal insert 29. The cap 28 is trapped on the terminal by the disc 36 bonded to the end of the contact pillar 25. Where a terminal is to be mounted on a surface panel and connected to a conductor not immediately adjacent the panel, a through bore, e.g. 11 or 12 is provided with an insulating sleeve 14 or 15. This bore can be internally threaded in which case the body 22 is omitted and the sleeve 24, externally threaded is screwed directly into the bore, the cartridge fuse cap abutting the appropriate conductor or a conductive element electrically connected to the conductor to be tested. Alternatively the bodies 22 and 24 may be connected as a bayonet fitting, a coil spring then being included. When the terminal is not required, the sleeve 24 and cap 28 are removed and the body 22 is closed by a press fit cap.
