Abstract

1,220,862. Electric couplings. J. K. SCHAEFER. 30 April, 1968, No. 20379/68. Heading H2E. A battery terminal connector comprises a cast split clamp body 10, having a reinforcing element 11 therein, a threaded stud 6 fixed to the reinforcing element, a shoulder washer held in position on the stud by a pin 3, for example, welded thereon, and a terminal post 8 around the stud, with its top face flush with the washer. The reinforcing element 11 is made of a material of a higher conductivity than that of the clamp body and, in use, surrounds a terminal post 28 on a battery. A compressive screwthreaded fastener 15 which extends through aligned holes in the clamp and reinforcing element arms facilitates good electrical and mechanical connection to a battery terminal post 28. A resilient non-conducting housing 49 fits over the connector, to protect the metal parts. The bore 38 may be sealed with a plug (not shown). Alternatively, a sealing cap (also not shown) may be snapped over the annular portion 52. The clamp body 10 may be cast lead integrally with the terminal post 8. The reinforcing element 11 may be of brass or steel and may be in one piece or two, the pieces spot welded or riveted together.
