Abstract

1370145 Squareness gauge J G SEATON and B C TESTER [trading as TESTON ENG] 24 Aug 1972 [22 Sept 1971] 44116/71 Heading G1M A base 1 providing a datum line 15 mounts a column 2 which supports a sleeve 3 vertically and rotatably movable thereon, and the sleeve itself supports a pinion 22 which may be turned by a finger wheel 10 to slide a rack 9 having a carrier 7 slotted at 8 to receive a dial gauge 5. In operation the knurled screw 4 may be unlocked to allow the sleeve 3 to be rotated until a maximum reading is given by the gauge 5 on one of a pair of parallel faces 17, 18. The object being measured is then repositioned with its other face touching the datum line 15 and another reading of 5 taken. The difference between these readings indicate the degree of squareness error between these faces and the third face 20.
