1,255,824. Linear measuring. R. H. NAMEPLATES Ltd. [trading as REPRO PRECISION EQUIPMENT.]. May 14, 1970 [Sept. 15, 1969; Dec. 1, 1969], Nos. 45382/69 and 58499/69. Heading G1M. A measuring device comprises a transparent plastics member 1 carrying a scale mounted in slides 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, in a frame F. Slide 9 includes member 10 engaging dial gauge 2, and springs 4, 4<SP>1</SP> Fig. 2 (not shown) urge members 1 and 10 away from the dial gauge. The other slide 9<SP>1</SP> is acted on by a cam 8 so that rotation of knob 8 pushes the slide towards the dial gauge. In use to measure the position of a point viewed through the member 1, member 1 is moved axially until the point coincides with a mark on the scale on member 1, the distance moved being indicated by the dial gauge. In the embodiment of Fig. 3, the position of the member carrying the scale is adjusted by screw 21 threaded into the frame and having a flange 22 engaging slide 23. A magnifying glass moves on a carriage 19 along rail members 17, 17<SP>1</SP> of the frame of the device.
