Abstract
136,969. Hall, J. W. March 7, 1919. Valves.-A sleeve valve 2 controls mixture inlet ports 5 and exhaust ports 3, 4 adjacent the cylinder head, air being drawn in through the exhaust ports during the early portion of the suction stroke, and combustible mixture through the terminal ports 5. Air for scavenging and the formation of the working charge is forced into the cylinder through the exhaust ports either by a pump or by the movement of a vehicle, to which the engine is applied. The sleeve valve may be replaced by beat or other valves, and the mixture inlet port may be disposed in any convenient position.
