1369568 Labelling machines PRICEMASTER Ltd 27 March 1973 [20 June 1972] 28764/72 Heading B8F [Also in Division B6] A labelling machine for applying pressuresensitive labels from a strip 12 comprises an off-winding label supply reel 11, an on-winding collection reel 13 which is driven through a unidirectional clutch, a guide roller 40 and an applicator 41 mounted on an arm 14 which is swingable on a pivot pin 22, and a pivoted counterweighted arm 15 or an impulse wheel (not shown) engageable by the article 45 to be labelled to cause intermittent rotation of the on-winding reel 13 for winding-up a length of label backing strip equivalent to the length of label strip unwound by the arm 14. An article 45 to be labelled pivots the first arm 14 causing unwinding of a length of label strip 12 and peeling of a label from its backing strip as the guide roller 40 moves along the back of the label strip, the applicator 41 then applying the label to the article 45. After the labelled article 45 has passed, the first arm 14 pivots back to the position shown in the Figure and the next succeeding article 45 engages the counterweighted arm 15 or the impulse wheel. In the embodiment shown the onwinding reel 13 is associated with a friction disc (33, Fig. 2) interposed between two unidirectional clutches (31, 32, Fig. 2) mounted in opposition, the on-winding reel being rotated during the return swing of the counterweighted arm 15. Movement of the arm 15 is transmitted to the clutch (32) by a pivoted rod 16. The machine is suspended from a pivot pin 18 so that when forward pivoting of the arm 15 is limited by engagement with an edge of a support plate 10 or a stop, the entire machine can be rocked forwardly upon further movement of the article and so lift the arm 14 clear of the leading edge 44 of the article.
