Abstract

1365975 Heat relaxing yarns; fluid jets MITSUBISHI RAYON CO Ltd 23 Nov 1971 [7 Dec 1970] 54307/71 Heading D1F Apparatus for continuously relaxing a yarn comprises a feed nozzle device 3 with means defining a yarn feed path 15a and means defining a heating medium nozzle slit surrounding the yarn feed path 15a, a relax tube 6 extending from the nozzle device 3, an accumulation tube 19 extending from said relax tube 6 and having a plurality of openings 20 in the periphery thereof and one open end 19b, an outside box 7 surrounding the accumulation tube 19, a delivery nozzle device 10 with means defining a yarn delivery path 31b and means defining a nozzle slit 32b for blowing a cooling medium around the yarn delivery path, and means e.g. ducts 8, 9 for forcibly exhausting the heating medium and the cooling medium, the said means being conncted to the outside box 7, the cooling medium nozzle slit 32b and the accumulation tube open end 19b. Means may also be provided for naturally exhausting a portion of the heating medium, said means being connected to the box 7. In a further embodiment, the box 7 is partitioned into an upper chamber and a lower chamber, the lower chamber being connected to a heating medium supply conduit. The relax tube 6 and the box 7 may be surrounded by a heater e.g. electric heater, sheating jacket, to minimise condensation when steam is used as the heating medium. Various shapes of accumulation tube are disclosed, and the openings 20 are preferably circular, but may alternatively be in the form of longitudinally extending slits. In use of the apparatus to relax yarn, the yarn is prerelaxed by being sucked into the relax tube 6 by means of heating medium e.g. air or steam, jetted along the direction of advance of the yarn. The flow of heating medium carries the yarn through the relax tube 6 to the accumulation tube 19. The prerelaxed yarn is further relaxed by accumulation in a tensionless condition, the heating medium flowing through the accumulation and also carrying the accumulation through the tube 19. The relaxed yarn is delivered from the open end 19b of the tube 19. A cooling medium, e.g. air, is blown toward the open end 19b along the delivery path of the yarn in a direction opposite to the direction of advance of the yarn. The cooling medium introduced at 21 cools the relaxed yarn while unravelling entanglements and intertwinings of the accumulated yarn preventing overrun of the accumulated yarn from the tube 19. The heating medium and cooling medium are forcibly exhausted via ducts 8, 9 which may be fitted with a damper 22 to control the rate of exhaust.
