1365757 Measuring admittance MARCONI INSTRUMENTS Ltd 27 Feb 1973 [13 April 1972] 17019/72 Heading G1U The admittance of an element connected between two terminals 1, 2 is measured by passing a small current from a low impedance A. C. source 3 through it and through the base-emitter circuit of a transistor 6 having a collector load comprising a circuit 11 tuned to the frequency of the A. C. source and a selectable shunt resistor 12, 13, 14, and by measuring 18 the base-collector voltage, which will be an indication of the current through the unknown element and hence of its admittance. The selectable resistors 12, 13, 14 provide three different gains for the transistor, and hence three different measurement ranges. The frequency of the A.C. source may be switched, also, to a lower value, in which case the collector load 11 is retuned by shunt capacitor 17. Since the A. C. source has a low impedance, the arrangement may also be used for measuring the admittance of an element even when it is shunted by a parallel path, providing that an intermediate point in the parallel path is connected to earth 14.
