Abstract

1365647 Mangetic storage medium AGFAGEVAERT AG 20 July 1972 [23 July 1971] 34024/72 Headings C3P and C3R A magnetic storage medium comprises a layer of magnetizable particles on a support the layer having been formed from a dispersion in a solvent of the particles and (a) a polyether urethane (b) a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer containing hydroxyl groups, e.g. as vinyl alcohol groups and (c) a melamine resin as hardener added as the final ingredient of the dispersion. Preferred amounts are (a) 20-55%, (b) 70-40% and (c) 0À4-15% by weight. (a) is preferably the reaction product of polytetramethylene glycol with p,p<SP>1</SP>-diphenylmethane diisocyanate and (c) the reaction product of hexamethylol melamine with a C 1 -C 4 alcohol. In examples needles of γ-Fe 2 O 3 with carbon black are dispersed in tetrahydrofuran/dichloroethane/ methyl glycol acetate or CrO 2 is dispersed in tetrahydrofuran/methyl ethyl ketone together with commercial products (a), (b) and (c), a fatty acid mixture, organic phosphate dispersants and p-toluene sulphonic acid as crosslinking agent and applied to a polyester support, oriented magnetically, dried and heated.
