Abstract

1364833 Surface treating appliance ELECTROLUX Ltd 16 Feb 1973 [7 March 1972 7 Feb 1973] 7733/73 Heading A4F [Also in Division B3] A surface treating appliance is connected to a suction generator (e.g. a vacuum cleaner) and comprises a turbine wheel 20 disposed in the air-flow, the wheel 20 having a weight 29 attached thereto at an off centre position so as to generate oscillating motion of the wheel 20 when air passes the vanes 30 thereof. A working member comprises a tool for rubbing, brushing, scrubbing, polishing or, as shown, grinding in which case the tool comprises foamed rubber covered with grinding paper. The working member is mounted on a base-plate 23 which experiences the oscillating motion generated by the wheel 20. The handle 17 of the appliance is mounted to the working member via a flexible coupling which may comprise a resilient tube 31 having cut away portions which minimizes oscillatory motion of the handle 17. In modifications, a planar coupling is employed thereby decreasing the height of the appliance, which coupling may, Figs.5, 6 (not shown) be in two parts, a first being connected to the working member by resilient elements or metal springs, the other being similarly connected to the first and mounted on the handle the two sets of elements or springs being disposed at right angles. In a further modification of the planar coupling, an integral elastic frame is employed incorporating coaxial sets of reduced portions which act as the resilient elements. The appliance may be connected to the suction source either directly or indirectly via a flexible hose, the connection being to either one of two appliance inlets 35, 36, the other being closed by a sealing plate 37.
