The claims are directed to a fault detection arrangement for a computer whereby l/o operations are performed at first predetermined time intervals and the computer performs check calculations resulting in a check number which is converted to a second time interval. If the first and second intervals deviate from a predetermined relationship, unit 126A or 126B produces a fault signal.
