Abstract
1363678 Continuous casting USS ENGINEERS & CONSULTANTS Inc 1 Nov 1971 [2 Nov 1970] 50705/71 Heading B3F A copper mould 10 has welded studs 19 extending through openings 20 in ribs 16 defining coolant channels in thicker, backing plates 12, 13, e.g. of steel, nuts being threaded on the studs to secure the mould 10 to the plates. Instead of being directly welded to the mould 10, the studs, preferably of stainless steel, may be welded to stainless steel strips 18 (which may be in separate collinear lengths with gaps between) welded in vertical channels in the mould exterior. The mould 10 may be of one-piece welded construction or be a mould adjustable to produce castings of different sizes, having adjustable end walls 29, Fig. 4.
