1363071 Engine exhaust gas silencers BATEMAN MOULD & TOOLS Ltd 16 July 1971 [20 April 1970] 18729/70 Heading F1B Bodies 9 and 13 of sound-absorbing material, e.g. long stranded fibreglass, metallic mesh, stainless steel fabric, or asbestos, define, within a cylindrical casing 1, an annular flow passage 14 between openings 6 and 7 in the periphery of inlet and outlet pipes 4 and 5 projecting into the casing. Expanded metal tubes 8 and 12 contain the sound-absorbing material. The cross-sectional area of the passage 14 may be substantially equal to or greater than the cross-sectional area of the flow-path upstream of the passage and substantially equal to or less than the flow-path downstream of the passage. The tubes 10 and 11 supporting the tube 12 may have apertures.
