1362913 Feeding webs M KURODA 20 July 1972 [21 July 1971 5 Feb 1972] 33969/72 Heading B8R An apparatus for laterally stretching and registering a moving web 11, Fig. 1, of a textile fabric comprises a pair of stretching devices 10R, 10L disposed slidably and adjustably on a carriage 16 and controlled as regards deflection of rollers 12R, 13R and 12L, 13L about an axis Z with respect to an axis X speed and of rotation to effect lateral displacement of the web for transfer registering, by a respective feeler ring 91 pivoting between three effective positions to close electrical contacts which connect the roller drive motor 64, Fig. 5, to high, normal and slow speed voltage supplies to effect the necessary degree of stretching and/or registering. Each device 10R, 10L consists of a pair of stretching rollers 70, 71 driven by a motor 81 and a pair of nip rollers 12R, 13R and 12L, 13L driven by the motor 64 of a speed predetermined by the feeler rings 91. The feeler rings 91 can occupy nine different permutatable positions and produce a corresponding permutation of closed contacts in an electric control circuit the permutation permitting the devices 10R, 10L to be moved relative to each other when driven by a motor 120 in consequence of variation of web width and fast deflection of the devices 10R, 10L between the indicated angular (theta 1, theta 2) positions by a respective pneumatic cylinder 42 on actuation of an electromagnetic valve 103 connected to the control circuit whose contacts are operated by the pivotable feeler ring 91. The latter deflection of the devices 10R, 10L is brought about when, e.g. the device 10L cannot restore the web to its mean registering path and its lateral pull on the web is assisted by deflecting the device 10R from its extremely effective angular position (theta 1) to the lesser effective angular position (theta 2).
