Abstract

1362712 Pyrotechnic compositions KIL. GORE CORP 19 Aug 1971 [24 May 1971] 39005/71 Heading C1D [Also in Division F3] A sparkler composition capable of being moulded into a rigid stick (see Division F3) comprises, by weight, 25-50 parts of an oxidizer (at least half of which is ammonium perchlorate), 3-14 parts iron or steel powder, and 3-27 parts of a fuel including a combustible binder. Other oxidizers which may be included are barium, strontium, ammonium, or potassium nitrate, ammonium dichromate, potassium chlorate, ammonium persulphate, copper chromite, manganese dioxide, barium ferrite, and antimony trisulphide. The iron or steel powder may be coated with paraffin or linseed oil to prevent rust. Specified ingredients of the fuel component are Al and Mg powders, carbon, sulphur, starch, dextrin, powdered polymers and copolymers of methyl, ethyl, and butyl methacrylate, cellulose acetate, ethyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, chloride, or acetate, vegetable or animal glue, shellac, red gum, and synthetic adhesives. Magnesium carbonite, sodium carbonate, or borax may be added as a combustion rate modifier. To colour the flame, strontium carbonate, copper carbonate, copper chromite, the dimer of hexachlorocyclopentadiene, ammonium biborate or barium chlorides may be added. Other ingredients referred to are chromium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate.
