Abstract

1362475 Coated sheet materials COLUMBIA RIBBON & CARBON MFG CO Inc 20 Jan 1972 [25 Jan 1911] 2808/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] A thermographic transfer sheet which does not absorb infrared radiation comprises a flexible support carrying a uniform heat-transferable layer of discrete particles which soften at 150‹ to 220‹F, the particles comprising wax and being separated, at least partially, by interfaces and voids which provide a thermal insulation and weakened severing points between heated and unheated particles. Th particles may may comprise a mixture of 95 to 65% by weight of wax and 5 to 35% by weight of a film forming binder having a higher melting point than the wax. The wax may be carnauba, ouricury, microcrystalline, beeswax or montan wax and the binder mayw be ethyl cellulose, polyvinyl butyrate or polybutene. The transfer sheet may be made by coating a dispersion of the transfer layer forming material in a volatile vehicle on the support and evaporating off the vehicle at a temperature below the softening point of the dispersed particles.
