Abstract

1362219 Shearing; consolidating scrap KLOCKNER-WERKE AG 19 Oct 1971 [18 Nov 1970] 48506/71 Headings B3W and B3H A scrap cutter comprises a cutting unit 30 and a compressing unit comprising a casing 15 and a compressor member 11 connected to the casing by a pivoted rod 13 and by hydraulic cylinders 17, 18 which are pivotable about pins 19, 20 fixed to the casing and have piston rods pivoted to the member 11 at 21, 22. This mounting enables the member 11 to turn about an axis perpendicular to its length and the length of the compressing unit on its inward movement. The cylinders 17 and 18 are actuated individually or together to move the member 11 inwards to compress scrap against a fixed wall 16. A cover 25 is pivotable about axis (26) (Fig. 1, not shown) by hydraulic cylinders 27, 28. A feed ram 29 forces compressed scrap towards the cutter blade 34 which is operated by fluid pressure and has a fluid pressureoperated hold down 31. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3, an end wall 14<SP>11</SP> is resiliently mounted on the casing to yield to pressure from the member 11. Alternatively a spring (41) or hydraulic cylinder is mounted centrally of a wall (40), Fig. 4 (not shown), and can move rectilinearly when engaged by the member 11. Instead of a hinged cover the compressor unit may have a trough in its base into which compressed scrap falls and which houses the feed ram.
