Abstract

1362194 Door closure assembly ENVIRONMENT SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 18 Oct 1971 [17 July 1970] 34683/70 Heading E2M A door closure assembly comprises a closer which urges the door towards the closed position, a retainer which is engageable with the closer to render the closer inoperative, the retainer being operated by a trigger, actuated by signals from a control means the control means having an overriding switch which disengages the retainer. As shown, the assembly comprises a closer 2 which incorporates a rod 2b mounted in plummer-blocks 2c 2d on base plate 8 above a door. A spring 2a acts between the block 2c and a cam boss 2e fixed to the rod 2b. The cam boss 2e has a flat base sliding on the base plate 8, two sides, and two chamfered portions 2f and 2g joining-the sides to a flat top. The two chamfered portions and top form a cam profile for roller followers 3a. The rollers are linked by a spindle 3c to a link 3b having two parallel arms pivotally mounted, on the block 2c. If the rollers 3a on the retainer 3 are allowed by trigger to come below the chamfered portions, cam boss 2e is held against movement with respect to block 2c and the spring 2a is rendered inoperative. The door then swings freely. If the rollers do not go below the chamfered portions the retainer is not engaged and the closer remains operative to close the door. In the embodiment shown, the rod 2b is attached to the door 1 by means of a linkage 10 and a flange 13. The trigger is carried on a pivoted arm controlled by an over-centre spring so that it remains in the operative or inoperative position. A manual selector can normally rotate the arm to either position. The over-riding switch energises a solenoid to displace a cam slider, the cam part of which acts on a follower on another arm rotating with the first to turn it to the operative position holding the retainer 3 up out of engagement with the cam boss 2e. The slider is locked in the withdrawn position by a pivoted catch freed afterwards by a special key. The over-riding switch may be part of a fire-protection system preventing fire doors remaining open in the event of a fire.
